BEING IGNORANT OF THE CLAY IN THE EARTH' S HEART


The image of a "rock boiling up like milk" brings to mind the spontaneous of the island of Surtsey, near the Vestmannaeyjar (Westman Islands), off the southern  coast of Iceland,  on the 15th November 1963. This was a spectacular fire-and-brimstone birth, in which ash, pumice and cinders burst 1,000 feet into the sky, after more that six invisible months spent traveling to the ocean's surface. At times the ash column reached heights of 30,000 feet, and was visible from as far as away Reykjavik. Volcanic activity is commonplace beneath the surface of the oceans, so anticipating the location of any new arrival is difficult. but Nostradamus describes an environment here that is still relatively primitive and environment possibly closed off to western eyes. North Korea? The Indoneasian Archipelago? Cuba?
