Now here, all of sudden, we find warlike Mars married to the virginal Sceptre, symbol of sovereignty and control, and most probably a reference to Agamemmon's famous sceptre, originally forged by Vulcan,and revered for its capacity to produce miracles.
Cancer, the crab, is famous for having bitten Hercules on the foot during his battle with the Hydra-before it had time to scuttle away to safety., however, it wass duly squished by the mighty one.
