Nostradamus would have known the towns of Auch, Lectoure and Mirande very well from this period of residence in Agen,in the Gers. It was there, of course, that he lost his first wife and two children to the the plague, so the place would have had mixed memories for him, of both past happiness and present grief. All the more reason then to look beyond the literal to a spiritual renewal, brought about a physical cataclysm. For Nostradamus, the physical cataclysm would have been the death of his family, the trauma of which helped to trigger his prophetic powers. Fort he earth to change,and to discover its own hidden resources, Nostradamus anticipates the need for a greater-dare one say even communal-cataclysm.
Summary
Some see global catastrophe as the essential trigger needed for fundamental spiritual change, while others fear the onslaught of uncertainty. Nostradamus is telling us here that good news can emerge from seeming catastrophe.
